Pakistan’s Forex Reserves Drop to $12.65 billion

KARACHI: Pakistan’s total liquid foreign reserves reached 12.6560 billion dollars while reserves held by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) stood at 7.49 billion dollars.

SBP said in a statement on Thursday that the central bank’s reserves decreased by 220 million dollars to $7.49 billion.

The total liquid foreign reserves of Pakistan went down by $257 million to $12.6560, whereas net foreign reserves held by commercial banks stood at 5.16 billion dollars after a decrease of $37 million.

IMF asks Pakistan to raise gas tariffs

Earlier, the International Monetary Fund asked Pakistan to ‘immediately raise’ gas tariffs.

The IMF is seeking 100pc increase in the gas tariff to minimize the losses and circular debt in the gas sector.

It showed concerns about not raising the gas tariff from 1 July during a virtual meeting with the Pakistan finance ministry officials.

IMF demanded the caretaker government to immediately approve the hike in gas tariff, according to media reports.
