ISLAMABAD: Pakistan launched its first digital population and housing census on Wednesday.

As many as 121,000 field enumerators will collect data in the countrywide survey that is scheduled to be completed by April 1.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in a tweet, announced the launch of the country’s first Digital Census’23. He said this transparent system of data collection would feed into informed decision-making, future planning, and efficient utilization of resources.

Census to collect evidence-based authentic data

All provinces have been taken onboard over the census. The collected data will be released by April 30, which will then be approved by the Council of Common Interests. The evidence-based authentic data, gathered as per international standards, will be used for the delimitation of constituencies in the upcoming general elections as well as for future public policy planning.

The data-collection teams will be monitored by geo-tagging data and geo-mapping of SUPARCO and administration officials of respective provinces, divisions, districts, and tehsils.

The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) has already launched a portal for people to submit data themselves instead of providing data to census teams visiting door-to-door.
