ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s fertilizer imports during the first seven months of the current financial year dropped by 2.81% compared to the imports of the same period last year. Over 990,686 metric tons of fertilizers costing 493.618 million dollars were imported from July to January 2023-24, as opposed to the imports of 746,595 metric tons valued at 507.868 million dollars during the corresponding period last year.
Meanwhile, imports of insecticides also decreased by 2.19%, with 20,996 metric tons worth 112.101 million dollars imported to meet local agriculture sector requirements, compared to 22,246 metric tons worth 114.522 million dollars during the corresponding period last year.
During the review period, medicinal products worth 633.722 million dollars were imported, compared to imports worth 838.565 million dollars during the corresponding period last year, marking a decrease of 24.43%.
In the last seven months, imports of agricultural and other chemicals registered a decrease of about 12.82%, falling from 5.826 billion dollars to 5.079 billion dollars.
Tractor Assembling in Pakistan
However, tractor assembling in Pakistan during the first two quarters of the current fiscal year increased by 67.21% compared to the output of the same period last year. From July to December 2023, nearly 23,695 tractors were locally assembled, compared to 14,171 tractors during the corresponding period last year.
Tractor production in December 2023 also saw a significant increase compared to the same month last year, rising by 141.43% with 2,675 tractors locally assembled compared to 1,108 tractors in December of the previous year.
