ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Masood Khan said on Friday that cross-cultural learning by a people-centric approach could help promote bilateral ties between Pakistan and the US.
In a meeting with a 25-member group of Grade 5 students from Janney Elementary School, Washington, the ambassador wished to explore opportunities of having exchanges with counterpart schools in Pakistan.
The students met the envoy at the Pakistan embassy under the Embassy Adoption Programme, a joint collaboration between Washington Performing Arts and DC Public Schools. The trip was aimed at imparting skills to students to succeed in a rapidly interconnected and culturally diverse world.
The envoy said the programme was an excellent step to promote multicultural ties that could have a great impact.
Excellent presentation on Pakistan
He lauded the students for their excellent presentation on Pakistan covering areas of geography, art, and sports. Some students decided to learn Urdu, while others focused on Pakistani arts and culture, presenting a wide range of talent.
They made a ‘Jeopardy game’ series on Pakistan where quiz queries were based on Pakistani arts, landscapes, national flowers, animals and were followed by a Pakistani anthem performance that entertained the audience. Grade V student Margaret Melia headed the chorus.
As part of their project, students developed a collective artwork showcasing Pakistan’s diverse landscape, a football with the students’ names on it, and a truck art miniature. They presented them to the envoy.
The ambassador congratulated Program Coordinator from Janney Elementary School Sarah Buscher for her initiative. –APP
