Pakistan’s Deputy PM, OIC Chief Call for Immediate Ceasefire in Gaza

JEDDAH: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq on Wednesday called for urgency of a ceasefire and unhindered supply of humanitarian assistance for the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

Dar has met with OIC Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha on the sidelines of the Open-Ended Extraordinary Meeting of the OIC Executive Committee in Jeddah.

They reviewed the situation in Gaza and Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). During the meeting, Ishaq Dar talked about the ongoing genocide of the Palestinians and the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza and the West Bank with the Secretary-General. 

They stressed the urgency of a ceasefire and unhindered supply of humanitarian aid for the people of Palestine. Ishaq Dar lauded the efforts of the OIC for peace in the Middle East and expressed full support of Pakistan for its initiatives.

He praised the historic role of the OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir and the Special Envoy for Jammu and Kashmir for supporting the legitimate right of self-determination of the Kashmiris through various OIC resolutions and statements.

Islamophobia, discrimination, and violence against Muslims also came under the discussion. The Deputy Prime Minister also lauded the appointment of OIC Secretary General’s Special Envoy on Islamophobia adding that he would steer the campaign to address this important issue.
