ISLAMABAD: A Pakistani court has reserved its decision on the appeals filed by former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi against seven years sentences in the un-Islamic nikah case.
Judge Shahrukh Arjumand of the district and sessions court in Islamabad announced that the reserved verdict on appeals challenging the sentences of the PTI founder chairman and the former first lady will be pronounced on May 29.
The court reserved the verdict after hearing the final arguments of lawyers from both sides.
Imran Khan’s lawyer Salman Akram Raja, Bushra Bibi’s lawyer Usman Gul and the assistant counsel to Khawar Maneka’s lawyer Rizwan Abbasi appeared before the court. Prosecutor Adnan Ali also participated in the proceedings.
Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi, who married in February 2018, were awarded 7 years imprisonment in the ‘un-Islamic’ iddat case. The local court’s judge Qudratullah also imposed a fine of Rs 500,000 against each.
