Pakistan’s Core Inflation Eases to 3pc in August

On a month-on-month basis, inflation dropped by 0.6percent in August

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s core inflation, as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), slowed to 3 percent in August 2025 from 4.1 percent in July, according to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Monday.

The PBS said the CPI-based inflation during the same month of last year (August 2024) was recorded at 9.6 percent.

On a month-on-month (MoM) basis, overall inflation declined by 0.6 percent in August 2025, reversing a 2.9 percent increase in July 2025, and contrasting with a 0.4 percent rise in August 2024.

For urban areas, CPI inflation rose by 3.4 percent year-on-year (YoY) in August 2025, compared to 4.4 percent in July 2025 and 11.7 percent in August 2024.

On a MoM basis, urban CPI dropped by 0.7 percent, following a 3.4 percent rise in July 2025 and a 0.3 percent increase in August 2024.

CPI inflation Rural, increased by 2.4 percent on a year-on-year basis in August 2025, compared to an increase of 3.5 percent in the previous month and 6.7 percent in August 2024.

On a month-on-month basis, it decreased by 0.5 percent in August 2025 compared to an increase of 2.2 percent in the previous month and an increase of 0.6 percent in August 2024.

The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) inflation on a YoY basis increased by 2.6 percent in August 2025, compared to a decrease of 0.9 percent a month earlier and an increase of 10.8 percent in August 2024.

On a MoM basis, it increased by 3.2 percent in August 2025 compared to 3.1 percent a month earlier and a decrease of 0.3 percent in August 2024.

The Wholesale Price Index (WPI) inflation on a YoY basis decreased by 1.0 percent in August 2025, compared to a decrease of 0.5 percent in the previous month and an increase of 6.3 percent in August 2024.

On a month-on-month basis, it decreased by 0.2 percent in August 2025 compared to 1.2 percent in the previous month and an increase of 0.3 percent in August 2024.

The core inflation measured by non-food non-energy urban increased by 6.9 percent on a YoY basis in August 2025, compared to 7.0 percent in the previous month and 10.2 percent in August 2024.

On a MoM basis, it increased by 0.3 percent in August 2025 compared to an increase of 0.8 percent measured in the previous month and an increase of 0.4 percent in the corresponding month of last year in August 2024.

The core inflation measured by non-food non-energy Rural increased by 7.8 percent on a YoY basis in August 2025, compared to 8.1 percent in the previous month and 14.4 percent in August 2024.

On a MoM basis, it increased by 0.2 percent in August 2025 compared to 0.7 percent in the previous month and an increase of 0.6 percent in the corresponding month of last year in August 2024.
