Pakistan’s Commerce Minister to Attend BRI Forum in China

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Commerce and Industries & Production Dr. Gohar Ejaz, will visit China in preparation for the 3rd Belt and Road Forum, scheduled to take place on October 17-18, 2023. This forum marks the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), a Chinese flagship global infrastructure development project.

The forum serves as a crucial platform for advancing international cooperation and will see participation from heads of state, government leaders, and representatives of numerous international organizations.

During his visit, the Commerce Minister will engage in meetings with prominent leaders of Chinese companies, the President of the EXIM bank, and other key figures to explore opportunities for boosting bilateral trade and business partnerships. The Minister will also play an active role in two business networking forums, expecting the presence of various Chinese companies.

The primary objective of this visit is to bolster Pakistan’s exports to China in sectors such as food and agriculture, textiles, mining, value-added mining products, new technology, electric vehicles, solar panels, and E-Commerce.

Pakistan’s Minister to Address Business Networking Forums

Furthermore, the Minister will attend a meeting with the President of COFCO, a major player in the food processing industry. Several one-on-one meetings with representatives from various industries are also on the agenda, with considerable interest already shown by Chinese companies in these planned interactions.

Minister Ejaz will communicate the potential for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Pakistan and provide Chinese companies with insights into investment opportunities, particularly in labor-intensive sectors and emerging technology industries.
