ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s central government debt reached Rs50, 904 billion in November, up by 24.2 percent (Rs9.95 trillion) as compared to the same month last year.
The central government recorded domestic debts of Rs31, 135 billion in July 2022 which increased to Rs32, 099 billion in August. In September, it shrank to Rs31, 404 billion while surging again to Rs32, 500 billion in the month of October.
On 30 November 2022, it stood at Rs32, 929 billion, the latest data released by the Ministry of Finance revealed on Friday.
External Debt
On the external front, the central government recorded Rs19, 374 billion in debt in July 2022 which decreased to Rs17, 418 billion in the month of August. It witnessed again a marginal increase in September and went up to Rs17, 997 billion.
However, the upward trend stopped again in October and the external debt of the country fell to Rs17, 650 billion which increased again to Rs17, 973 billion in November.
Debt in both categories
Thus in both categories, the central government recorded Rs50, 510 billion in debt in July 2022 which decreased to Rs49, 518 billion in the month of August. It witnessed again a marginal fall in September and fell to Rs49, 401 billion.
However, the upward trend started again in October and the total debt of the central government rose to Rs50, 151 billion which further increased to Rs50, 903 billion in November 2022.
