Pakistan’s Caretaker PM to Visit Jaranwala to Meet Christian Community

ISLAMABAD:  Pakistan Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar has decided to pay a visit to Jaranwala tehsil of Faisalabad along with his ministers to express solidarity with the Christian community after Wednesday’s riots over alleged blasphemy allegations.

During his visit, Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi will also accompany him to express solidarity with the Christian community and announce compensation for the losses the affected people faced. Angry locals set ablaze churches, several houses, and vehicles in Jaranwala.

Earlier today, Justice Qazi Faez, Senior puisne judge of the Supreme Court (SC), along with his wife, paid a visit to the Christian-populated colony of Jaranwala, where he met the affected and assessed the losses. Speaking to the victims, Qazi Faez Isa said that if anyone attacks churches, it is the responsibility of Muslims to prevent the attackers.

It is pertinent to mention here that a violent mob on Wednesday ransacked and torched 19 churches and 86 homes belonging to the Christian community over alleged blasphemy allegations.

The Punjab police have so far arrested 145 people in the violent riots, including two prime suspects. The police have booked over 1400 miscreants.

The Interim Prime Minister Yesterday had condemned the incident and said that Pakistani state and society does not align and identify with such elements.
