ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s capital’s administration has announced an ambitious plan to transform Islamabad into a global tourism destination, with projects ranging from a Ferris wheel and cable cars over the Margalla Hills to a world-class theme park and dancing fountains.
Capital Development Authority (CDA) has rolled out a transformative blueprint to elevate Islamabad into a premier global tourist hotspot.
With plans that stretch from the treetops of the Margalla Hills to the hearts of city dwellers and wanderers alike, the capital is readying for a stunning metamorphosis, one that marries natural splendor with world-class leisure and innovation.
What was once a quiet government town is now bracing to become a city of movement, magic, and memory, where Ferris wheels kiss the clouds, cable cars glide over emerald canopies, and dancing fountains light up twilight skies.
Chaired by CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, a meeting brought together the city’s top minds and planners to chart a bold course forward.
On the table: mega-scale tourism ventures, dynamic recreational hubs, and skyline-defining attractions that aim to draw visitors from around the globe, while enriching the daily lives of locals.
Ferris Wheel, Cable Car, and Theme Park
In what could soon become Islamabad’s signature skyline attractions, the CDA is planning to construct a world-class Ferris wheel, a state-of-the-art theme park, and a cable car system offering jaw-dropping aerial views of the Margalla Hills.
These new additions will blend entertainment with nature, offering experiences that rival international amusement hotspots.
Adding further charm to the capital will be a dancing fountain, envisioned as a dazzling visual symphony of water, music, and light, bringing global-style nighttime entertainment right to the heart of the city.
Gardenia Hub Takes Root
One of the flagship initiatives nearing completion is the transformation of the CDA model nursery into the Gardenia Hub, a lush, eco-conscious horticultural retreat designed to highlight Islamabad’s green identity.
The hub will serve not only as a botanical haven but also as a peaceful urban escape, promoting sustainability and aesthetic enhancement.
Sports and Leisure Revamped
While entertainment takes center stage, sports and public wellness haven’t been sidelined. The CDA is revamping cricket and football grounds, upgrading parks, and improving sports amenities citywide, part of a broader mission to promote healthy lifestyles, youth engagement, and community participation.
“We envision a city that is not only beautiful but also bustling with life,” said CDA Chairman Randhawa.
“These projects are about creating experiences—safe, inclusive, and exciting—that make Islamabad a destination people dream of visiting and residents take pride in calling home.”
Global Vision with Local Impact
The meeting, attended by senior CDA board members and project leads, reviewed current progress and emphasized the need for high-quality execution and transparent implementation.
Chairman Randhawa urged departments to accelerate timelines, aligning the civic strategy with the national vision outlined by the Prime Minister and the Federal Minister of Interior.
“These attractions will not just boost tourism, they will support local businesses, generate employment, and position Islamabad as a thriving cultural and recreational hub,” Randhawa added.
Capital of Dreams
As the sun sets over the Margalla Hills, a new dawn rises for Islamabad—one filled with cable cars gliding above forests, Ferris wheels lighting up the sky, and families enjoying world-class leisure right at their doorstep.
In the months ahead, as cranes rise and fountains dance, the city is poised to claim its rightful place among the most captivating capitals of the world.
Islamabad is no longer just a government city, it’s becoming Pakistan’s new gateway to wonder.
