ISLAMABAD: Bano Kousar of Pakistan secured a gold medal in the women’s 48-kilogram contact ju-jitsu category at the Asian Ju-Jitsu Championship on Sunday, after defeating India’s Richa Sharma.

Her impressive victory on Day 3 of the tournament in Amman marked a significant achievement for Pakistan in the competition.

Kousar’s win added to Pakistan’s growing success at the event, which had already seen the country claim two bronze medals earlier in the week.

Muhammad Ali Rashid and Muhammad Yousuf Ali earned bronze in the men’s duo category, while Isra Waseem and Kainat Arif took bronze in the women’s duo event.

Applauding team’s accomplishments

Khalil Ahmed Khan, Chairman of the Pakistan Ju-Jitsu Federation, applauded the team’s accomplishments, stating: “These are more than just medals — they are a testament to the fact that Pakistani athletes are of international calibre. Full credit goes to the coaches, athletes, and support staff for their dedication and hard work.”

Tariq Ali, Secretary General of both the Pakistan Ju-Jitsu Federation and the South Asian Regional Ju-Jitsu Association, described the achievement as a landmark moment for the sport in the country. “The determination and bravery shown by our female and youth athletes are truly inspiring,” he said.

The championship, featuring top-level competitors from across Asia, is set to conclude on Monday. Pakistan’s contingent remains hopeful of adding to their medal tally in the final stages of the tournament.
