DUBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has named Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistan’s cricket team, as one of the nominees for the esteemed ICC Player of the Month Award. If successful, Babar will become the first player to win the award three times, having previously been honored in April 2021 and March 2022.

Babar’s nomination comes on the back of his outstanding performance in the five-match home One-Day International (ODI) series against New Zealand. Pakistan emerged victorious with an impressive 4-1 lead, clinching victories in both April and May.

Babar Azam’s Role in Pakistan’s Success

The Pakistani skipper’s exceptional batting skills played a crucial role in his team’s success. A noteworthy moment occurred on May 3 when Babar partnered with Imam-ul-Haq to forge an impressive second-wicket century stand. Babar’s contribution of 54 runs off 62 balls helped Pakistan post a formidable total of 287/6. Furthermore, his strategic captaincy led the team to restrict New Zealand to 261, securing a comfortable victory.

Babar continued to raise the bar in the subsequent match, earning the well-deserved recognition as the Player of the Match in a convincing 102-run triumph. His magnificent knock of 107 runs off 117 balls marked his 18th ODI century and propelled Pakistan to an imposing total of 334/6.

Throughout the series, Babar’s ability to rally his teammates and deliver remarkable innings solidified his position as a key figure in the game. His performances garnered praise from fans and experts alike, highlighting his exceptional skills and leadership qualities.

In addition to Babar Azam, the nominees for the ICC Player of the Month Award include Bangladesh’s Najmul Hossain Shanto and Ireland’s Harry Tector.

The winners of the award will be determined by an independent ICC Voting Academy and fans around the world. Fans registered at icc-cricket.com/awards will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite performers until Saturday. The winners will be announced next week.
