PARIS: Pakistan’s top javelin thrower, Arshad Nadeem, marked his return to competitive athletics with an impressive fourth-place finish at the Paris Diamond League, signaling a promising comeback ahead of the Paris Olympics.
Competing after a year-long hiatus, Nadeem showcased his prowess on the field, demonstrating steady improvement throughout the competition. In his opening throw, he reached 74.11 meters, setting the stage for a series of competitive performances.
Nadeem’s second throw saw a significant leap as he reached 80.28 meters, followed by a third attempt that soared to 82.71 meters, briefly positioning him within the top three contenders. His consistent performance continued with a throw of 82.17 meters in the fourth attempt.
However, Nadeem faced tough competition from Jacob Vadlejch, whose 85-meter throw in the same round pushed him into third place, displacing Nadeem to fourth. Despite a strong effort of 84.21 meters in the fifth round, Nadeem was unable to reclaim a podium finish, concluding the event in fourth place overall.
This competition marked a crucial return for Nadeem, who has been recovering from a series of setbacks including recent surgery for a knee injury. His absence from competitions, including the Hangzhou Asian Games, underscored the challenges he faced in returning to top form.
Previously, Nadeem had earned acclaim by securing a silver medal at the World Championship in Hungary last year.
