Pakistan’s Army Chief, UAE Vice President Discuss Cooperation, Regional Issues

DUBAI: Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Asim Munir, on Tuesday called on Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, Vice President (VP) and Prime Minister (PM) of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Ruler of Dubai.

The meeting between the two leaders was held at the Za’abeel Palace in Dubai in the presence of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai.

The discussions covered the close bilateral ties in defence and military affairs and avenues to bolster cooperation in the sector.

Sheikh Mohammed congratulated General Syed Asim Munir on his appointment as COAS of Pakistan and wished him the best in the new role. General Syed Asim Munir expressed his gratitude to His Highness for the wishes.

Army Chief’s meeting with UAE leadership

The meeting discussed the strong cooperation between the UAE and Pakistan in defence and military affairs and explored opportunities to strengthen these ties in ways that serve the common interests of the two countries.

The meeting was attended by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group; His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Media Council, and Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, the Dubai Sports Council’s Chairman.

The COAS is currently on a week-long visit to Saudi Arabia and UAE. During his visit, the COAS met with the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman, the Saudi Foreign Minister and Chief of General Staff of Saudi Arabia. He also met with the UAE President, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

On his arrival to Dubai, the UAE Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum received Pakistan’s Army Chief.
