RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir, currently on a visit to the United States, held high-level meetings with key US officials to emphasize the significance of understanding each country’s perspectives on regional security matters and developments impacting strategic stability in South Asia, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement on Friday.
According to ISPR, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir held discussions with prominent government and military figures, including US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Secretary of Defense (retired) General Lloyd J. Austin, Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland, Deputy National Security Adviser Jonathan Finer, and Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff General Charles Q. Brown.
The ISPR said that the meetings covered topics such as bilateral interests, global and regional security issues, and ongoing conflicts. Both parties expressed a commitment to sustained engagement, exploring potential avenues for bilateral collaboration in pursuit of shared interests.
The discussions with defense officials specifically identified counter-terrorism cooperation and defense collaboration as central areas of mutual interest. The leaders reiterated their intent to enhance interaction and explore opportunities to broaden mutually beneficial engagements.
General Munir stressed the importance of comprehending each other’s perspectives on regional security and developments affecting strategic stability in South Asia. Notably, the COAS emphasized the significance of resolving the Kashmir issue in line with international law and relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
General Munir also interacted with the Pakistani overseas community during a reception hosted by the Embassy of Pakistan. The COAS commended the positive role played by the Pakistani diaspora in contributing to the progress and development of the country, considering them as ambassadors of the country worldwide, ISPR said.
Moreover, the army chief urged the Pakistani diaspora to invest through the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), emphasizing the United States as Pakistan’s largest export market. He dispelled rumors regarding special screening, visa denials, and detentions.
Army Chief also met with Tanweer Ahmed, who generously donated $9 million to the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) for IT development in Pakistan. General Asim Munier appreciated Tanweer Ahmed and said that Pakistan is proud of people like him.
