RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, took centre stage on Wednesday as he briefed participants of the National Security Workshop–27 (NSW–27) at General Headquarters (GHQ), outlining Pakistan’s regional security challenges, internal stability efforts, and the broader national security environment.
During an interactive session, the Army Chief detailed the fluid and rapidly shifting regional landscape, shaped by rising geopolitical competition, cross-border terrorism, and hybrid threats, according to a statement released by the military’s media wing- Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
He emphasized that despite these multifaceted challenges, Pakistan’s Armed Forces, intelligence agencies, and law-enforcement institutions continue to operate with unwavering professionalism and resolve to safeguard national security.
Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir described Pakistan as “a country of consequence,” asserting that the nation is destined to achieve its rightful position in the global community.
He highlighted the Armed Forces’ performance during Marka-e-Haq, noting that their commitment and capability had enhanced Pakistan’s international stature. National unity, he stressed, remains the country’s most critical strength against hostile designs.
“Marka-e-Haq” refers to a 2025 military operation and conflict between India and Pakistan, and its subsequent commemoration as a national day in Pakistan. The operation, named Operation Bunyanum Marsoos, was launched by Pakistan following Indian attacks. Following this, May 10th was declared Youm-e-Marka-e-Haq, a day to honor the military’s success.
Delegates were also briefed on national initiatives to curb smuggling, narcotics trafficking, and organised criminal networks that undermine internal stability.
Updates included strengthened border controls and measures relating to the repatriation of illegal foreigners—part of broader efforts to fortify domestic security and protect national interests.
Reiterating the Army’s core commitment, the Army Chief affirmed that Pakistan’s territorial integrity and the safety of every citizen are paramount, adding that these principles would not be compromised “under any circumstances.”
In his concluding remarks, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir reaffirmed the Army’s full support to federal and provincial governments, underscoring that sustained peace, stability, and prosperity require cohesive national efforts and robust institutional collaboration.
NSW–27, organised by the National Defence University (NDU), is a premier programme that brings together parliamentarians, senior civil and military officers, academics, and civil society representatives for strategic-level engagement.
