RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Syed Asim Munir, on Monday held a meeting with prominent members of the Christian community in Pakistan, the military’s media wing said in a press release.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated in a press release that Dr. Azad Marshall, Moderator and President of the Bishops Church of Pakistan, as well as the Bishop of Raiwind, led a delegation from the Christian Community to meet the COAS at General Headquarters.
During the meeting, COAS General Syed Asim Munir and the senior Christian delegation engaged in discussions covering a range of topics, including matters of mutual interest and the promotion of religious and inter-faith harmony.
COAS General Syed Asim Munir took the opportunity to express his admiration for the invaluable contributions made by the Pakistani Christian Community to the nation’s development. He particularly highlighted their roles in advancing quality education, healthcare, philanthropic services, and their outstanding contributions to the defense of the country.
Christian Community Appreciates Pakistan Army’s Efforts to Combat Terrorism
The COAS emphasized the vital need for fostering greater interfaith harmony within Pakistani society. He stressed that this was in line with the true vision of the nation’s founder, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, for a united and progressive Pakistan. The COAS further underscored that Islam is a religion of peace and tolerance, and there is no place for intolerance or extremism in Islam and society. He emphasized that in a civilized society, no one should take the law into their own hands.
In response, the Christian community members acknowledged the Pakistan Army’s ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and provide a secure environment for minorities within the country. They also expressed their appreciation for COAS General Syed Asim Munir’s gesture, considering it an inspiration for Pakistani minorities to play a more active role in nation-building and to have confidence in the development of a united and tolerant society.
