BEIJING: Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Khalil Hashmi, visited Peking University in Beijing on Tuesday and met with the university’s President, Gong Qihuang.
During his visit, Ambassador Hashmi praised Peking University’s esteemed status as a leading institution of learning and its significant contributions to strengthening Pakistan-China relations. He expressed gratitude for the university’s hosting of the Pakistan Studies Center and its provision of Urdu language courses.
The Ambassador thanked President Gong for the ongoing support provided to Pakistani students and the Center for Pakistan Studies at the university. He emphasized the importance of initiating student and faculty exchanges and reviving the Pakistan Chair at Peking University.
President Gong warmly welcomed Ambassador Hashmi and acknowledged the strong bond of friendship between China and Pakistan. He highlighted the long-standing relationship between Peking University and Pakistan, particularly through the Urdu Language Program and Center for Pakistan Studies.
President Gong invited Ambassador Hashmi to participate in the upcoming Beijing Forum 2024 scheduled for November this year. He also agreed with the Ambassador’s proposal for exchange programs, recognizing their role in strengthening the close ties between the two countries.
During his visit, Ambassador Hashmi also toured the School of Foreign Languages and the Center for Pakistan Studies. He commended the school’s efforts in promoting Urdu language education in China and discussed opportunities for expanding the presence of Pakistan study Centers across China.
Ambassador Hashmi engaged with students and faculty members of the Urdu language program, further enhancing cultural and educational exchanges between Pakistan and China.
