OTTAWA: Pakistan’s Ambassador to Canada, Zaheer A. Janjua, marked Kashmir Black Day with a strong message condemning the decades-long inhuman and illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir by Indian forces.
Ambassador Janjua reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Kashmiri people who have endured brutal oppression for 76 years. “On this Kashmir Black Day, we stand in solidarity with our Kashmiri brethren, who continue to suffer under the ruthless Indian occupation. The atrocities committed by Indian security forces are not only inhumane but also a violation of international law and human rights,” Ambassador Janjua stated.
Highlighting the alarming situation in the Indian illegally occupied region, Ambassador Janjua condemned the unilateral and unlawful actions taken by the Indian government on August 5, 2019, including the deployment of a massive military presence of 900,000 troops in Kashmir. He underscored that these actions directly contravene the United Nations Security Council Resolutions and the Fourth Geneva Convention, emphasizing the urgent need for international intervention.
Pakistan’s Ambassador Urges International Community to Act on Kashmir Situation
“The international community must act decisively,” Janjua urged. “India must be held accountable for its egregious violations, which include extrajudicial killings, rape, torture, and the indiscriminate use of pellet guns against civilians. The world must compel India to lift the military siege, revoke the illegal actions of August 5, 2019, and respect the human rights of the Kashmiri people.”
Ambassador Janjua reiterated the stance of the United Nations, highlighting the extensive documentation by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and other international bodies, showcasing India’s persistent violations in the region. He urged the global community to pressure India into allowing international human rights and humanitarian organizations, as well as media and observers, access to the occupied territory.
