ISLAMABAD: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday reversed its earlier decision and reinstated Lieutenant General Munir Afsar as Chairman of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).
The federal government, represented by the Attorney General, had challenged the earlier ruling of a single-member bench that had invalidated Lieutenant General Munir Afsar’s appointment.
A two-member bench of the LHC, led by Justice Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal, reviewed the case and overturned the previous decision. The court has now issued notices to the relevant parties for their responses.

Lieutenant General Munir Afsar was appointed as NADRA Chairman on October 2 of the previous year.
The federal cabinet approved his appointment from a list of three candidates proposed by the Ministry of Interior. The cabinet had been informed that these were the top candidates shortlisted by the selection committee for the NADRA chairmanship.
The appointment followed the resignation of the former NADRA chief, Tariq Malik, who stepped down after a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
