ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday said that the people of Pakistan can play a central role in the country’s development and the global economy.

While chairing a meeting regarding investor involvement and opportunities in the process of digital and other reforms in the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), he expressed confidence that the country will achieve sustainable, better, and lasting outcomes through Pakistani investors.

Acknowledging the $700 million in investment commitments made in Pakistan’s IT sector during the Digital Investment Forum—part of the Digital Cooperation Conference—the Prime Minister highlighted that Pakistan is home to some of the world’s leading experts in IT and other fields.

He noted that, when given the right opportunities, these professionals are capable of delivering outstanding results aligned with their skills and potential.

The Prime Minister emphasised that the government will prioritise involving the Pakistani investor community in both the IT sector and broader reform initiatives.

Underscoring the importance of local investment for long-term, sustainable development, PM Shehbaz instructed that a dedicated webinar be organised to brief IT sector investors on opportunities arising from the FBR’s digital reform initiatives.

Participants during the meeting were briefed on the various phases of the digital reform process in FBR and available investment opportunities.

The participants were told that there were investment opportunities worth over $100 million in digital invoicing, faceless technology, cargo tracking, and other digital reforms in FBR.

The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Secretary-General of the Digital Cooperation Organization Deemah Al Yahya, CEOs of international IT companies, and senior officials from relevant departments.

Shehbaz Sharif stated that Pakistan, with a population of 240 million, offers the most promising market in the region for digital startups and foreign investment.
