PARIS: Pakistan’s swimming and shooting teams faced a challenging day at the Paris Olympics 2024 as Ahmed Durrani and Jehanara Nabi fell short of advancing to the next rounds in their respective swimming events.

In the men’s 200-meter freestyle, Ahmed Durrani concluded his Olympic campaign with a disappointing performance, finishing last in his heat. Durrani clocked a time of 1 minute and 58.67 seconds, well below his personal best of 1 minute 55 seconds. His time placed him 25th out of 25 swimmers in his heat, finishing 11 seconds behind the swimmer who secured the last semifinal spot.

In the women’s 200-meter freestyle, Jehanara Nabi also struggled to make a significant impact. Nabi finished 26th out of 30 swimmers, not making it to the top 16 required to advance. She finished third in her heat, falling short of the competitive edge needed to progress further in the competition.

On Saturday, Pakistani shooters Gulfam Joseph and Kishmala Talat began their Olympic campaigns with mixed results. In the 10-meter air pistol event, Gulfam Joseph was unable to qualify for the final round. He ended in 22nd place out of 33 shooters, scoring 571 points out of a possible 600. Joseph’s performance was below the mark needed to advance.

Similarly, Kishmala Talat also failed to advance to the final round of the 10-meter air pistol competition. She scored 567 points across six series, which was insufficient to secure a place in the final. Both shooters will now shift their focus to the mixed-team event scheduled for July 29, where they will hope for a better outcome.

Kishmala’s prospects for a strong finish in the Olympics are still alive with her participation in the women’s 25m pistol events, which are seen as a more promising opportunity for her.
