ISLAMABAD: A group of 51 Pakistani students is set to leave for the United States (US) to study for one semester in American universities under the Global Undergraduate Semester Exchange Program (Global UGRAD) funded by the US government.

The United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) organized a two-day pre-departure orientation session in Islamabad to learn about the US culture, university campus, visa, and travel requirements. The successful students come from all regions of the country and represent thirty public and private universities.

During their stay in America, the students will attend undergraduate classes at forty-seven colleges and universities and participate in community projects to improve their academic and leadership skills.

The program, funded by the US Department of State, provides students with the opportunity to enrich their experience and develop learning skills.

Ethan Rosenzweig, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Academic Programs (ECA) for the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, felicitated Pakistani students traveling to the US for the educational program.

US welcomes Pakistani students

The United States is eager to welcome these outstanding student leaders on its university campuses, where they will share their perspectives and culture with their American peers, helping to connect the people of both countries, Rosenzweig said.

Since the program launched in 2010, nearly 2442 Pakistani students have received an excellent one-semester scholarship to study in the US.

Rita Akhtar, USEFP Executive Director, encouraged the students to exploit the academic, community service activities and extracurricular opportunities available in the US. – APP
