ISLAMABAD: Pakistani students showcased their exceptional talent and expertise at the Huawei ICT Competition 2022-2023 Global Final held in Shenzhen, China. The event marked the seventh edition of this prestigious competition and was the first to be conducted in person since 2019.
A total of 146 teams from 36 countries participated, with more than 120,000 students from over 2000 universities worldwide initially taking part in the ICT Competition.
In an outstanding achievement, students from Pakistan secured top positions in various categories. In the Network Track, a team from Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Jamshoro and Lahore College for Women University won the second prize, while another team from Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Jamshoro, Lahore College for Women University, FAST-nu Islamabad, and University of Engineering and Technology Lahore claimed the third prize.
Moreover, Pakistani teams named Team Glam and Team Quran Ustads from FAST – National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences, Islamabad, earned the third prize in the Innovation Track. These achievements highlight the talent and dedication of Pakistani students in the field of ICT.
Huawei ICT Competition a Platform for Students Worldwide
The Huawei ICT Competition aims to provide a platform for college students worldwide to showcase their skills and engage in healthy competition within the ICT domain. Huawei has collaborated with 2200 universities, establishing Huawei ICT Academies and training over 200,000 students annually. Since its inception in 2015, the competition has attracted participation from more than 580,000 students representing 85 countries and regions.
The success of Pakistani students reflects the country’s commitment to fostering digital talent and skills. The Middle East and Central Asia region also performed exceptionally well, with teams from the UAE, Kazakhstan, Iraq, Jordan, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia securing top positions in various tracks.
Huawei Middle East & Central Asia Vice President, Shunli Wang, congratulated all the winning teams from the region and emphasized the importance of nurturing local talents to drive the development of the digital economy.
