Army's media wing says terrorists were involved in attacks on law enforcement agencies and civilians

ISLAMABAD: At least six terrorists were killed by Pakistani security forces in an operation in the southwestern province of Baluchistan on Saturday, the military’s media wing said in a statement.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation was conducted based on intelligence reports about the presence of terrorists in the Kalat district.

Security forces “effectively engaged” the terrorists’ hideout, and after an intense exchange of fire, six terrorists were “successfully neutralised”.

“During the conduct of operation, own troops effectively engaged the terrorists location and after an intense fire exchange, six terrorists were successfully neutralised.”

The ISPR said that the deceased terrorists were involved in attacks against law enforcement agencies and civilians.

Sanitisation operation

A sanitisation operation is being conducted to eliminate any other terrorists, the statement added.

“Sanitisation operation is being conducted in the area to eliminate any other terrorist found in the area, as the security forces of Pakistan, in step with the nation, remain determined to thwart attempts at sabotaging peace, stability and progress of Balochistan,” the official statement read.

Following the operation, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday appreciated the security forces for “a successful operation against terrorists in Kalat”.

“The premier lauded the professional skills of the officers and jawans of security forces for successful operation against ‘Fitna-al-Khawarij’ and their facilitators and killing six terrorists in Kalat,” a statement issued by the PM office said.

The prime minister said that security forces, “by destroying the dens” of terrorist had protected the country from big harm.

He said that no terrorist organisation would be allowed to ruin the country’s peace.

War to continue

Shehbaz Sharif said that the war against terrorism would continue till the complete eradication of terrorism from the country.

“Entire nation was standing with Pakistan armed forces in its unflinching resolve to protect the country from nefarious designs of terrorists,” he added.

President Asif Ali Zardari also commended the security forces for eliminating the terrorists in Kalat, Balochistan.

“The president lauded the bravery of the security forces for successfully neutralizing six terrorists during the operation,” President Secretariat Press Wing said in a press release.

He said that operations against terrorists would continue till their complete eradication.

The president also reaffirmed the “unwavering national commitment” to eliminating terrorist elements.

“He reiterated the national resolve to completely eradicate the cancer of terrorism,” the statement said.
