KARACHI: The Pakistani rupee marginally gained against the US dollar in the inter-bank market on Thursday.
The rupee was being quoted at 283.60, an increase of Re0.32 against the greenback, in the inter-bank market during the early hours of trading.
A day earlier, the local currency failed to hold ground against the US dollar, closing at 283.92 in the inter-bank market, an increase of Re0.37 or 0.13%.
The Minister of State for Finance Dr Aisha Ghaus-Pasha said on Wednesday that the government was moving closer toward signing the staff-level agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
She said the 9th review was taking time because the lender wants to independently verify the external financing commitments from friendly countries.
The government and IMF have been in negotiations since early February to resume $1.1 billion in funding held since November, which is part of a $6.5 billion bailout agreed in 2019.
