Pakistani Restaurant Offers Free Meal to Needy Workers in UAE

ISLAMABAD: A Pakistani expat in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) started to offer free meals to needy and poor people in Sharjah. He said that he started the drive after he met a starving person near his restaurant about 8 years ago.

Shahid Asghar Bangash said that he founded Karachi Star restaurant in 2008 at Muweilah and Saja areas of Sharjah. He added that they offer South Asian dishes like nihari, biryani, kebabs, and karahi. The Karachi Star’s owner added that an encounter years ago made him realize there were people who came to the United Arab Emirates in search of work without following appropriate process. As a result, some of individuals found themselves stranded, having no job and food.

He added that they were not able to provide jobs to these people, therefore, he decided to provide free meals to ease their problems in UAE.  He told Arab News that they provide at least 50 meals on daily basis to assist the poor and needy people in Sharjah.

A Pakistani worker Faisal Iqbal said that he is very thankful to the staff of the Karachi Star due to their support during odd days. He added that the restaurant provided free food to many workers including him and extended their moral support as well.
