NEW DELHI: As Pakistan yesterday started its World Cup journey with a convincing victory over the Netherlands, the Pakistan Cricket Board is still awaiting the issuance of visas for its media team and fans who wish to travel to India to provide coverage and support the national team in green jerseys during the ODI World Cup.
An ICC spokesperson responded to Pakistan’s complaint by stating, “This is a responsibility of our host BBCI, and they are diligently addressing it with our complete support.”
The spokesperson said that they are making every possible effort to address the visa issue.
In a statement released on Friday, the Pakistan Cricket Board expressed that the visa delay had placed the PCB “under immense pressure.” Pakistani journalists and fans are currently facing uncertainty about obtaining Indian visas to cover Pakistan’s World Cup opening game against the Netherlands in Ahmedabad.
The statement further highlighted that the presence of fans and journalists not only adds vibrancy to the stadium but also contributes significantly to the global coverage and appreciation of the game.
The PCB has been consistently reminding the ICC for the past three years about the importance of fulfilling their responsibilities and adhering to the members’ agreement regarding visa issuance for both fans and journalists. They stated their intention to continue voicing their concerns with the relevant authorities.
