ISLAMABAD: Malaysian Minister for Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), Datuk Seri Utama Tengku Zafrul Bin Tengku Abdul Aziz, has reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to simplifying procedures for Pakistani businesses.
During a meeting with Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, the Malaysian minister acknowledged the challenges faced by Pakistani exporters, particularly in the accreditation process for meat and gelatin exports. He expressed a commitment to easing these procedural hurdles to facilitate smoother trade flows.
Minister Khan emphasized the longstanding friendship between Pakistan and Malaysia, highlighting the vast potential for expanding bilateral trade. He urged for increased business engagements to transform this potential into tangible results, noting that nearly every sector in Pakistan offers growth opportunities.

Khan pointed out that Pakistan exports high-quality rice and mangoes globally and mentioned the recent removal of the Minimum Export Price (MEP) for rice, which would enable exporters to negotiate more competitive prices. He encouraged Malaysia to strengthen its engagement with Pakistan, particularly in importing rice.
A significant part of the discussion centered on the potential for exporting halal meat from Pakistan to Malaysia. Khan reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining high halal standards, which are crucial for accessing the Malaysian market.
He emphasized Pakistan’s dedication to fostering a conducive environment for foreign investment and expressed optimism about the future of bilateral relations between the two nations.
Additionally, the Malaysian Minister extended an invitation for Pakistan to participate in ASEAN activities, as Malaysia will be assuming the chair of ASEAN soon. This meeting marks a significant step toward deepening economic cooperation and exploring new business opportunities beneficial to both countries.
