RAWALPINDI: A Pakistani accountability court on Wednesday reserved its verdict on the acquittal plea of Bushra Bibi, wife of jailed former Prime minister Imran Khan, in a £190 million settlement case.

The former prime minister and his wife are accused of causing a multi-billion-rupee loss to the national treasury, with the case also involving a prominent property tycoon.

Accountability Court Judge Nasir Javed Rana will announce the decision on Bushra Bibi’s plea on Thursday, following the conclusion of arguments from both sides.

The couple appeared in a makeshift courtroom set up in Adiala Jail for security reasons. However, the cross-examination of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) investigation officer was postponed due to the absence of Imran Khan’s lawyer.

Bushra Bibi’s lawyer, Usman Riaz Gul, presented arguments in favor of her acquittal. The anti-corruption watchdog opposed her petition for acquittal.

Additionally, the judge deemed a request to initiate contempt proceedings against the NAB chairman “ineffective” based on the arguments presented by both the prosecution and defense regarding the acquittal plea.
