ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court on Wednesday issued orders to release Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders Ali Muhammad Khan and Maleeka Bokhari, declaring their arrest “unlawful.”

IHC judge Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb heard the bail plea Ali Muhammad Khan and Malika Bukhari, whom the Islamabad police had arrested after protests and riots broke out across Pakistan following the arrest of former prime minister Imran Khan, who the high court later bailed out.

The court ordered their immediate release and cancelled the arrest of both the leaders under the 3MPO (maintenance of public order).

The PTI leaders and many others were detained under the Maintenance of Public Order 1960 following the violent protests erupted in the country over the arrest of Imran Khan on May 9.
