ISLAMABAD: An Additional District and Sessions Court on Saturday acquitted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the iddat case.
Additional district and sessions court Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka annulled the trial court verdict that was reserved earlier. The court accepted the pleas of ex-PM Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi seeking dismissal of conviction in the iddat case.
Judge Afzal Majoka also ordered the release of Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi if they were not required in any other case and also rejected the medical board’s plea.
Earlier, a district and sessions court in Islamabad rejected the pleas of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi seeking suspension of their sentences in the iddat case.
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) in June ordered the session court to announce the judgement on the petition seeking suspension of conviction in Nikah case within a month. The court directed the session court judge Afzal Majoka to decide on both cases within the specific period.
The former prime minister wedded Bushra Bibi in Lahore in February 2018. The ceremony was attended by close relatives, including Bushra Bibi’s mother, and friends. PTI founder’s sisters, however, were not present on the occasion.
Mufti Saeed had performed the nikah of the PTI Founder and Bushra Bibi. Former Pakitan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Awn Chaudhary and former Advisor to the Prime Minister, Zulfi Bukhari appeared as witnesses.
Last year, Khawar Maneka former husband of Bushra Bibi, had moved the court and claimed that the marriage was illegal and against the Sharia laws.
PTI Founder and Bushra Bibi were originally accused of marrying within the three-month of iddat period after her divorce. Maneka additionally had accused them of fornication.
Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi were awarded seven years of imprisonment and Rs 500,000 fine against each in the case. Judge Qudratullah announced the verdict in the ‘un-Islamic’ nikah case against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.
