ISLAMABAD: The project of Pakistani and Chinese research institutes on “Assessment and Regulation Mechanism of Climate Change Impacts on Water, energy, and food in typical Regions of Pakistan and China”, has been successfully approved recently.
Being an international (regional) cooperation and exchange project under the supervision of China’s National Natural Science Foundation, it was applied jointly with Lasbela University of Agriculture, Water and Marine Sciences and Changjiang River Scientific Research Institute (CRSRI). This was the second such project of CRSRI that was approved in about 20 years.
Research related and based on “Water Cycle Patterns and Effects of Water Conservation and reduction in emission in the areas of irrigation of Yangtze River Basin”, CRSRI plans to assist its Pakistani counterpart in exploring the impact of climate change on water-energy-food linkages between the two countries.
Moreover, the project will provide technical assistance for realizing the sustainability of natural resources, per reports by China Economic Net (CEN) on Wednesday.
To address future extreme events related to climate change, systemic water-energy-food plans and programs are urgently required both in Pakistan and China.
Pak, Chinese institutes joint efforts for Climate Change
The policies and Actions from China in Response to Climate Change and Pakistan’s Vision 2025 all stress the design of water, energy, and food security policies that address climate change while preserving natural resources.
As reported by CRSRI, it will take this research project as an opportunity to strengthen personnel exchanges and cooperative research with the concerned institutions in Pakistan, broadening the channels of international scientific and technological cooperation, and to enhance its influence on international cooperation, and provide technical assistance for improving agricultural water resources and food security in Pakistan and China.
