ISLAMABAD: Pakistani athletes delivered a stellar performance at the Hero Open Malaysia International Taekwondo Championship, clinching two gold and two silver medals in a highly competitive event featuring more than 2,000 participants from 20 countries.
Muhammad Umar emerged as a standout in the senior category, defeating a strong Chinese opponent in the final to secure Pakistan’s first gold medal.
His victory marked a significant milestone for the sport in Pakistan and brought international recognition to his hometown of Kashmore.
The second gold medal was claimed by Syed Hamza Shah, who overpowered rivals from Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia with consistent and commanding performances.
His dominance in the rounds earned him a place on the top step of the podium.
Shamil Ali Hussain also made a strong impression, winning three consecutive bouts to reach the final.
Although narrowly defeated in the last round, he secured a silver medal, underlining his growing potential on the international stage.
Another silver medal went to Hammad Nadeem, who fought his way to the final after a spirited run through the competition.
The Hero Open Malaysia International Taekwondo Championship is regarded as one of the region’s most prestigious events, attracting elite athletes from across Asia and beyond.
