ISLAMABAD:  A spokesperson from the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) has said that two astronauts from Pakistan will be chosen to undergo spaceflight training in China.

According to Daily CPEC, among them, one will be selected to join a collaborative space mission as a payload specialist.

Dawn News cited CMSA as saying the selection process for the Pakistani astronauts has already begun.

“Consistent with the stringent criteria used for Chinese astronaut selection, a three-stage process (preliminary, secon­dary, and final) will govern candidate selection,” Dawn cited CMSA spokesperson Lin Xiqiang as saying.

China Space Station

According to the flight mission plans for the China Space Station and the progress of international cooperation, one Pakistani astronaut will participate in a joint spaceflight mission as a payload specialist. In addition to daily crew duties, the astronaut will also be responsible for operating scientific experiments on behalf of Pakistan, CGTN reported.

Meanwhile, China is in discussions with other countries regarding their astronauts’ participation in missions to the China Space Station, with further updates to be released at an appropriate time, it further added.
