ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani has written letters to the heads of the United Nations (UN), Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the European Union (EU), drawing attention to the recent Indian Supreme Court judgment on the special status of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
In these letters, the Foreign Minister said that international law and UN Security Council (UNSC) resolutions stated that domestic legislation and judicial verdicts cannot be invoked to determine the final status of an internationally recognized disputed territory.
Pakistan Condemns Indian Govt’s Unlawful Measures
Minister Jilani condemned the unlawful measures taken by Indian authorities to solidify their occupation of IIOJK and suppress the rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The illegal actions, starting from August 5, 2019, aim to alter the demographic structure and political landscape of IIOJK with the goal of disempowering the Kashmiri community in their own land.
The Foreign Minister labeled the recent Indian Supreme Court judgment as a breach of international law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 122 (1957). He stressed that this endorsement of India’s unlawful measures cannot override the provisions of the UN Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir.
Foreign Minister Jilani called on the UN Security Council to ensure the full implementation of its resolutions on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute. He urged India to cease the grave and systematic human rights violations in IIOJK and reverse all illegal and unilateral actions taken since August 5, 2019.
