Pakistan, World Leaders Congratulate UK’s New PM on Landslide Win in Election

LONDON: Labour Party Chief Keir Starmer, who becomes the new Prime Minister of the UK after his party’s historic victory in the general elections, received congratulations from leaders across the world, including Pakistan’s leadership.

“I congratulate @Keir_Starmer on his victory in the UK elections. Pakistan looks forward to working with the new govt to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in all areas of mutual interest. I hope he’d play his role in addressing shared challenges faced by the world,” President Asif Ali Zardari said on X.

Similarly, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also extended wishes to Keir Starmer on his party’s victory, ending the Conservatives’ 14-year rule.

“Congratulations to Sir Keir Starmer on the landslide victory of the Labour Party in the general elections. Looking forward to working closely with the new UK government, under Sir Starmer’s wise and able leadership, to further strengthen and broaden the Pakistan-U.K. partnership,” Shehbaz Sharif posted on his official X account.

The Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau also congratulated him in a message on X. “Congratulations, @Keir_Starmer, on a historic UK election victory. Lots of work ahead to build a more progressive, fair future for people on both sides of the Atlantic. Let’s get to it, my friend,” Trudeau posted on X.

The French Prime Minister, Emmanuel Macron, said on X, “Congratulations Sir @Keir_Starmer on your victory. Pleased with our first discussion. We will continue the work begun with the UK for our bilateral cooperation, for peace and security in Europe, for the climate and for AI.”

Anthony Albanese, Prime Minister of Australia, congratulated Starmer as well and called him his ‘friend’. “Congratulations to my friend and new UK Prime Minister @Keir_Starmer on his resounding election victory I look forward to working constructively with the incoming @UKLabour Government,” he said.

The Labour Party secured a landslide victory with 403 seats, while Rishi Sunak’s Conservatives Party won just 109 in the 650-member House of Commons.
