COLOMBO, Sri Lanka: Pakistan women’s cricket team began training in Colombo on Wednesday as preparations got under way for the Women’s World Cup, which opens later this month in India and Sri Lanka.
The team arrived in the Sri Lankan capital late Tuesday, according to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Their first training session was held at the Ranasinghe Premadasa Stadium, focusing on batting, bowling and fielding drills under the supervision of head coach Muhammad Wasim, PCB stated.
The eight-nation tournament runs from September 30 to November 2 and will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

But Pakistan will play all their fixtures in Colombo under an International Cricket Council (ICC) hybrid model agreed due to political tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad.
Before the main event, Pakistan will play two warm-up matches in Colombo — against Sri Lanka on September 25 and South Africa on September 28.
Captain Fatima Sana told reporters in Lahore before the team’s departure that there was “no extra pressure” on her side regarding the World Cup clash against India on October 5. “All games carry similar pressure, so we will treat the India match like any other,” she said.
The 22-year-old all-rounder added that Pakistan were aiming for a strong start against Bangladesh on October 2. “We will try to build momentum from the first game,” she said, noting that the team’s recent performances against South Africa at home showed progress.
Pakistan lost that one-day international series 2-1 but chased a 300-plus target in the second ODI, eventually losing by 25 runs. “The way we went after the chase shows we are heading in the right direction,” Fatima said.
