DUBLIN: Pakistan Women’s cricket team won the toss and elected to bowl first against Ireland Women in the opening match of the three-match T20 International series at Castle Avenue, Dublin, on Wednesday.

Led by newly-appointed captain Fatima Sana, Pakistan are looking to start the tour on a positive note.

The team landed in Dublin earlier this week and, after a brief rest period, resumed training to acclimatise to local conditions ahead of the series opener.

Ireland, captained by Gaby Lewis with Orla Prendergast as vice-captain, have named a strong playing XI featuring key players such as Amy Hunter, Laura Delany, and Leah Paul.

The home side will be aiming to replicate the form that saw them defeat Pakistan 2-1 in a historic T20I series in Lahore back in 2022.

Pakistan’s playing XI includes experienced campaigners like Muneeba Ali, Sidra Amin, and Nashra Sandhu, with Aliya Riaz making her 100th T20 International appearance.

The 32-year-old all-rounder adds depth to Pakistan’s middle order and offers valuable experience to the touring side.

So far, Pakistan hold a dominant record in head-to-head T20Is, having won 15 out of 19 matches against Ireland.

All three matches of the series will be played at Clontarf Cricket Club in Dublin, with the second and third T20Is scheduled for August 8 and 10, respectively.
