ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari stated on Tuesday that Pakistan has witnessed a spike in terror incidents following the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan. Speaking at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during the launch of the ‘Digitized system under Foreign Minister’s Change Management Reforms,’ the foreign minister expressed concerns about modern arms and ammunition left behind by foreign forces falling into the hands of terrorist outfits and criminal organizations. He emphasized that this posed a significant challenge to the government.
The foreign minister, however, asserted that the government would spare no effort in establishing the writ of the state. He firmly stated that there would be no compromise with militant or terrorist groups. In a bid to address the pressing security issues, he disclosed that he had recommended convening an apex committee meeting to devise a comprehensive strategy against terrorist and criminal incidents in the country.
Pakistan’s Expectations from Taliban Govt
Regarding Afghanistan, the foreign minister said that Pakistan expected that the Afghan interim government would take decisive action against terrorist organizations, honoring its commitments made under the Doha Agreement to prevent their soil from being exploited by militant groups for terrorist activities against any nation. He said that Pakistan remains steadfast in its pursuit of cooperation against the menace of terrorism, recognizing that joint efforts are crucial for regional stability and security.
Amid the challenges, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari proudly highlighted Pakistan’s impressive diplomatic achievements over the past fifteen months. He credited extensive engagements with the international community for these accomplishments, declaring that “Diplomacy is back.” As a result of these diplomatic endeavors, Pakistan has achieved significant milestones, including its removal from the FATF grey list and progress in climate change issues.
The ceremony at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was graced by the presence of Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khan, distinguished diplomats, officials, and Pakistan’s ambassadors abroad, who joined through video link.
Additionally, the foreign minister inaugurated the solarization of the ministry, demonstrating Pakistan’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
