DOHA, Qatar: Pakistan secured a gold medal at the ongoing Asian Masters Weightlifting Championship in Doha, Qatar, as veteran lifter Maqsood Amjad Rathore delivered an impressive performance in the 96kg category for the 65+ age group.
Rathore lifted a combined total of 125 kilograms — 55kg in the snatch and 70kg in the clean and jerk — to claim the top podium spot in his category.
His performance not only showcased his enduring strength and discipline but also added a significant accolade to Pakistan’s sporting achievements on the international stage.
The championship, currently underway in Doha, brings together experienced weightlifters from across Asia.
It provides a platform for senior athletes to demonstrate their lasting fitness, competitive spirit, and commitment to the sport. The event will continue until 31 May.
A total of 10 athletes are representing Pakistan at the championship, including seven male and three female lifters.
All members of the national squad are gold medallists and record holders at the domestic level.
Notably, this is the first time female master weightlifters are representing Pakistan at a continental championship, marking a milestone in the country’s sporting history.
