ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and West Indies will begin a three-match T20I series in Lauderhill, Florida, on Friday (tomorrow), as both sides look to rebuild confidence and fine-tune their squads ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka.
Set against the Central Broward Regional Park Turf Stadium, the three-match series will be played on August 1, August 3, and August 4, serving as a vital litmus test for both squads aiming to bounce back from recent setbacks.
Currently, the West Indies sit 6th in the ICC T20I rankings with 11,521 points, while Pakistan trails at 8th with 11,467.
Rebuilding after rout
The West Indies arrive in Florida, licking their wounds from a 0-5 whitewash by Australia. The retirement of explosive all-rounder Andre Russell leaves a gaping hole in their firepower.
Shai Hope, a calm presence in a turbulent side, continues to lead the men in maroon.
One to watch will be Keacy Carty, the promising batter who stepped up in the final T20I against Australia and is likely to cement his place in Russell’s absence.
New chapter under Agha
Pakistan’s T20I blueprint has undergone yet another revision. Despite a recent series loss to Bangladesh, Salman Ali Agha retains the captaincy.
The team welcomes back pace ace Shaheen Shah Afridi and firebrand quick Haris Rauf, both returning from injury layoffs.
The bowling unit is further reinforced by Hasan Ali, while the spin department remains potent with Mohammad Nawaz and mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed.
Noticeably absent is Shadab Khan, side-lined due to a shoulder surgery, which gives emerging players like Sufyan Moqim and Hasan Nawaz a golden opportunity to shine on the big stage.
Following the T20I clash, both teams will remain in the US for a three-match ODI series on August 8, 10, and 12.
