Pakistan Wants Peace, Prosperity in Africa: Qamar Zaman Kaira

ISLAMABAD: Advisor to Prime Minister on Kashmir Affairs and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) senior leader Qamar Zaman Kaira said on Thursday that Pakistan wanted peace and prosperity in Africa and it always played important role in peace-keeping missions in the continent.

Addressing an event celebrating Africa Day at Center for Afghanistan Middle East and Africa (CAMEA), Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad, Kaira said that Pakistan was playing a key role in combating poverty in Africa as it was fully committed to Engage Africa Policy.

Pakistan offers scholarships

Kaira said that Pakistan was offering scholarships to African students in its universities and wanted to promote modern education in the region.

PPP leader said that Pakistan was also keen to expand the trade and business cooperation with African countries and it was working on further consolidating trade ties with them.

He said that Pakistan and Africa are facing different challenges, including poverty, and they can utilize each other’s’ experience to deal wit these problems.

Kaira appreciated the establishment of Ethiopian diplomatic mission in Pakistan and hoped that it would lead to extended bilateral relations between the two countries.

Pakistan-Africa trade relations

On the occasion, Dean of the African Coprs Mohammed Karmoune and Ambassador of Morocco said that Look Africa Policy benefited both Pakistan and Africa.

He said that the African market was very suitable for the Pakistani businesses and Pakistan and Africa have the trade volume of over $6 billion.
