ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s military spokesperson has reiterated the country’s commitment to peace and warned that they are fully prepared to defend the country if war is imposed.
The military spokesman, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, in an interview with the BBC, said India is playing with fire by spreading a false narrative and that Pakistan will not compromise on its sovereignty.
“We are a peace-loving nation, but if war is imposed upon us, we are always ready,” the DG ISPR warned
In response to a question, the military spokesman said that India’s statement about giving Pakistan advance notice of the attack is very funny. “We do not rely on Indian sources for our intelligence. We know everything about India — what they are doing and why they are doing it. We are always alert and ready.”
He made it clear that Pakistan’s air defence systems detect any drone intrusion instantly, particularly when Indian drones with a cross-section radar signature enter its territory.
He acknowledged US President Donald Trump’s role in diffusing crises between Pakistan and India, noting that even external actors wanted to avoid escalation.
Conflict between two rival nuclear powers a sheer stupidity
Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has said that a nuclear war between Pakistan and India would be an absurdity, inconceivable and sheer stupidity.
He warned that such a conflict would push both countries to the brink of destruction. “India is playing with fire,” he noted.
The DG ISPR said that Pakistan has shown utmost responsibility in the situation that has arisen in recent days, and prevented the tension from escalating further.
He said that Pakistan has always preferred peace, but if India wants to wage war, then war is the way to go.
He said Pakistan shot down six Indian aircraft during the war; we could have caused more damage to the enemy, but decisions were taken with a very mature perspective.
DG ISPR said that the Indian army’s narrative of targeting Jaish-e-Mohammad hideouts in Bahawalpur is not correct; the places where attacks were carried out in Bahawalpur, Muridke, and Muzaffarabad were mosques.
He said that the question is not being raised in India regarding the incident in the Pahalgam area of occupied Kashmir as to how such a big security lapse occurred.
He also criticised New Delhi’s internal political dynamics, suggesting that ongoing hostile rhetoric is partly driven by domestic political considerations.
He urged that any evidence of Pakistani involvement in terrorist activities be presented to Pakistan for action, underscoring Islamabad’s stance against terrorism.
