ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, on Sunday held separate meetings with the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, and the Foreign Minister of Indonesia, Sugiono, in Jeddah, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with both nations.
The foreign office statement said that meetings were held on the margins of the Extra Ordinary meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of OIC held in Saudi Arabia.
It added Ishaq Dar during a meeting with Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister recalled the visit of the President of Azerbaijan to Pakistan. “Both sides agreed to continue the upward trajectory of the bilateral relations and strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual interest,” it said.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday formed a committee for the early realisation of the Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements signed with Azerbaijan during his recent visit to the Central Asian state.
The prime minister while chairing a meeting to review the implementation of the accords directed the relevant authorities to present an action plan to take the Pakistan-Azerbaijan current trade volume to $2 billion.
In July last year, Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev paid a two-day official to Pakistan during which the two countries agreed to enhance the bilateral volume in areas of mutually beneficial projects.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also met with the Indonesian Foreign Minister, Sugiono where both sides reaffirmed the historic bonds between the two nations and agreed to deepen cooperation in various spheres.
In October last year, Pakistan and Indonesia reiterated their desire to increase cooperation in areas of mutual interests including economy and trade with the support of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC).
In this connection, Trade Expo Indonesia was also held to promote bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Indonesia. Business-to-business bilateral cooperation trade agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoU) worth 10.70 million dollars were inked between the two nations during this event.
Pakistan Navy ship ASLAT has recently taken part in the Multinational Naval Komodo 25 exercise in Bali, Indonesia.
