ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to raising global awareness about the situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, adding that it will continue to keep the international community informed about ongoing human rights violations in the region.
Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi made the remarks during a seminar in Islamabad on Sunday commemorating International Women’s Day.
Addressing the gathering, Andrabi emphasised that women often become the silent victims of oppression, suffering disproportionately in situations where human rights are abused.
He stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has made it a priority to ensure that women’s rights remain a prominent issue in reports submitted to the United Nations.
The spokesperson noted that UN human rights observers have consistently published reports on the situation in the region.
He specifically pointed to historical incidents, such as the alleged brutality in Kunan Poshpora, claiming they have never been subject to a proper investigation.
“Those responsible for the Kunan Poshpora incident remain free in India,” Andrabi asserted
The spokesperson added that the rights of women in Indian-administered Kashmir continue to be violated.
He argued that a lack of accountability has allowed such abuses to persist.
Andrabi further claimed that while Kashmiri women face ongoing rights violations, leaders of the Hurriyat Conference, whom he described as struggling for the region’s freedom, are imprisoned.
The Foreign Office spokesperson stated that Islamabad has effectively communicated its perspective on the situation to the global community, resulting in what he described as gradually increasing international pressure on India.
He concluded by reiterating Pakistan’s longstanding stance that India is an occupying power in the region and that Indian-administered Kashmir is not a legitimate part of India.
