Pakistan, Uzbekistan Vow to Boost Cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Thursday held a meeting with the foreign minister of Uzbekistan and discussed bilateral ties and matters of mutual interest.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office Spokesperson said in a statement via twitter that the two sides discussed matters of mutual interest with special focus on economy and regional connectivity.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Foreign Ministers Meeting (CFP) in Goa, India.

Meanwhile, the FM also held a meeting with the Secretary General of SCO on the sidelines of the meeting. During the meeting they discussed the SCO activities and matters of mutual interest.

On the occasion, the Secretary General of SCO thanked the minister for Pakistan’s consistent support to SCO. The SCO also lauded Pakistan’s constructive contribution towards strengthening regional cooperation, connectivity, peace and prosperity.

Earlier, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov also discussed bilateral ties and matters of mutual interest during the meeting in Goa. The Foreign Office Spokesperson said, “the two sides will work closely for further deepening cooperation in energy, foods, security and people-to-people contact.”

The spokesperson said that the SCO opens new vistas of coordination and cooperation with Moscow.  During the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations, matters of mutual interests, global and regional issues.

Earlier, FM Bilawal Bhutto emphasized the significance of Pakistan’s membership in the SCO and its commitment to its charter.  In a statement before his departure to Goa, he said that Pakistan’s participation in the SCO meeting demonstrated how seriously Islamabad took its membership and the organization’s significance.
