ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Uzbekistan have reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation in defence and security, and expressed optimism over further strengthening bilateral ties.
The military’s media wing, Inter Services Public Relations ISPR in a statement, said that Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, held meetings in Uzbekistan with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Minister of Defence Major General Shukhrat Kholmukhamedov, and Secretary of the National Security Council, Lieutenant General Victor Makhmudov.
During the meetings, discussions focused on the evolving international and regional geopolitical and security landscape, with particular emphasis on areas of mutual interest.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation aimed at strengthening bilateral relations in the domains of defence and security, as well as enhancing road and rail connectivity and other avenues of collaboration.

While on his official visit to Uzbekistan, General Sahir Shamshad Mirza highlighted the deep-rooted and fraternal ties between Pakistan and Uzbekistan, emphasising the shared resolve to work together in promoting regional peace, stability, and prosperity.
The leadership of Uzbekistan lauded the professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces and appreciated their sacrifices in the fight against terrorism.
Over the years, the relationship between Pakistan and Uzbekistan has strengthened due to high-level interactions, increased economic partnership, and collaboration in regional and international forums.
Last month, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Uzbekistan signed a framework agreement to conduct a joint feasibility study for a transnational railway project aimed at boosting regional connectivity and economic integration.
The project aims to establish a rail link connecting Uzbekistan with Pakistan through Afghanistan, enhancing regional trade and access to Pakistani seaports for Central Asian countries.
