LAHORE: Mohsin Naqvi, Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab, held a meeting with the governor of Bukhara Botir Zaripov in Uzbekistan on Monday and discussed bilateral relations and matters of mutual interest.
During the meeting, the two agreed on the proposal to declare Multan and Bukhara as sister cities.
While talking with Zaripov, CM Naqvi said that Sufism is a shared heritage of Pakistan and Uzbekistan, and linking Multan and Bukhara as sister cities would further promote Sufism and religious culture.
Pakistan, Uzbekistan Bilateral Ties
He said that religious, historical, and cultural ties bound Pakistan and Uzbekistan. The CM appreciated Uzbekistan and said that it had strengthened its economy through revolutionary reforms in the agricultural sector. Pakistan, particularly Punjab, would benefit from the agricultural initiatives of Uzbekistan.
Naqvi stressed utilizing Uzbekistan’s experiences in developing improved wheat and cotton cultivation seeds. He said that the joint committee of Punjab and Uzbekistan would take immediate measures for agricultural cooperation, while the road connectivity between the two countries would boost tourism.
Governor Zaripov welcomed Chief Minister and his delegation upon their arrival at the Bukhara Airport and assured them of his full cooperation.
He expressed the intention to expand cooperation with the Punjab government in seed development, agriculture, and other fields.
Earlier, the delegation visited a modern cotton factory and cotton fields in Tashkent. The CM Naqvi inspected modern machinery at the site and the operations of cotton processing.
He appreciated the use of cutting-edge technology in the factory and encouraged further measures to employ modern machinery.
